Gain hands-on experience through fieldwork and laboratory studies, delving into both local and worldwide zoology. You'll investigate animal anatomy, environmental adaptations, behaviors, physiological processes, and evolutionary development. From insect societies to primate groups, you'll analyze animal conduct while mastering population survey techniques. The program transitions from UK-based field training in Year 1 to international research in Year 2, followed by global placements in Year 3 across diverse ecosystems like South African savannas, Borneo's rainforests, or Swiss alpine regions. Emphasizing small-group, practical instruction, evaluation occurs solely through coursework, accurately reflecting the skills valued by employers and graduate programs. Expert instructors—recognized for teaching excellence, media contributions, and groundbreaking conservation research—will mentor you throughout.
The program provides short-term internships and extended placement opportunities, allowing you to earn academic credit while building professional connections. Past participants have worked with zoological parks, conservation organizations, and wildlife management teams. Additional experiences include educational roles in schools and involvement in specialized research projects like hedgehog preservation studies, dormice nest microbiology analysis, and thermal-imaging seabird population assessments.
