Our BSc Zoology program explores a diverse array of animal life, from microscopic organisms to birds and primates, while examining biodiversity, aquatic ecosystems, habitat conservation, and climate change impacts.
You'll investigate animal evolution, anatomy, physiology, behavior, and ecological relationships while developing expertise in animal care and conservation. The curriculum spans modern zoological disciplines, including wildlife management, paleoanthropology, and molecular genetics.
The program emphasizes hands-on learning through extensive fieldwork opportunities, both locally and internationally, to develop essential professional skills. You'll master fundamental lab techniques including titration and pipetting, while designing experiments to study climate impacts or analyze biological and physiological characteristics.
Through environmental surveys, sample collection, and biochemical testing, you'll learn to analyze data and present findings through comprehensive reports and presentations.
Fieldwork includes conservation exercises on Wimbledon Common and a week-long expedition to Wales, where you'll study diverse UK ecosystems including rivers, dunes, forests, and coastal areas. These experiences provide practical training in ecological assessment, animal behavior observation, and physiological studies.
All students have the opportunity to enhance their career prospects with a paid year-long placement after their second year, before returning to complete their degree requirements.
