Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) are healthcare specialists specifically educated to work in surgical environments and related clinical areas. As essential members of the surgical team, ODPs ensure patient safety and quality care throughout the three perioperative stages: anesthesia, surgery, and post-anesthesia care. Throughout the program, you'll develop skills to collaborate effectively with diverse medical professionals including nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and healthcare assistants. Upon completion, graduates qualify for HCPC registration and can begin practicing as certified Operating Department Practitioners.
Our program's foundation lies in the robust relationships we've established with regional healthcare organizations across both NHS and private institutions. These partnerships enhance our educational offerings while providing students with extensive practical training through varied clinical placements. We're committed to developing a skilled local workforce that addresses the employment demands of healthcare providers throughout Gloucestershire and surrounding regions.
Career paths for graduates typically include rewarding positions as operating department practitioners within NHS hospitals or private healthcare facilities. Some alumni apply their knowledge to academic research or teaching roles. This qualification also offers global prospects, enabling graduates to work and contribute to healthcare systems internationally.
