Research in Translation Studies is experiencing significant growth. Our institution boasts a vibrant postgraduate community, specialized networks, and an engaging seminar series, complemented by excellent library facilities, diverse expertise, and opportunities for cross-disciplinary guidance.
Within the School of Modern Languages and Cultures, Translation Studies encompasses a broad spectrum, with scholars and students exploring areas from literary to audiovisual translation in numerous languages. These include: Catalan, Czech, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Given its inherently interdisciplinary nature, Glasgow's program integrates knowledge from various academic disciplines. Prospective students are invited to review faculty research profiles across the School and, where relevant, the wider University. Collaborative supervision enables students to receive guidance in Translation Studies alongside complementary fields such as creative writing, graphic novels, medieval and renaissance studies, music, law, or medicine. Our faculty conduct internationally recognized research and maintain extensive partnerships within the College of Arts (English Literature, History, Philosophy, Theology).
The College of Arts Graduate School fosters a collaborative and interdisciplinary atmosphere for all research students. We provide comprehensive support, training programs, and skill-building initiatives. The College nurtures a dynamic and diverse student body across both taught and research programs, set within an intellectually rich environment. Every department within the College contributes to groundbreaking, influential research that shapes academic discourse.
