Immunology studies encompass cytokine and chemokine functions, immune cell communication, cutting-edge imaging techniques, and investigations into cellular & intestinal immunity. Our clinical applications target rheumatoid arthritis, skin conditions, respiratory ailments, and immune-related disorders affecting the central nervous system.
The body's defense system plays a crucial role in fighting infections and can be enhanced through vaccinations to establish long-term immunity. Yet, immune reactions also significantly contribute to various health conditions, including persistent inflammation, allergic reactions, autoimmune disorders, neurological inflammation, cardiovascular issues, and malignancies. The Centre for Immunobiology at the School of Infection and Immunity conducts studies to decode the immune system's molecular and cellular mechanisms in both healthy and diseased states, translating these findings into innovative treatments. This work thrives through strong collaborations among our team of skilled researchers and medical professionals, as well as partnerships with colleagues across the university and beyond.
Students and faculty enjoy access to advanced research facilities in the Sir Graeme Davis building at the university's core, along with clinical sites in Glasgow hospitals. Our specialists employ diverse methodologies, from molecular biology and Omics to cell studies, multiparameter flow cytometry, live tissue imaging, and disease models in living organisms, enabling comprehensive examination of immune processes at every level. The College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences Graduate School fosters an engaging, nurturing atmosphere for all postgraduate scholars, offering robust support through dedicated advisors, expert mentors, and personalized guidance for each student.
