Nutritional science plays an increasingly vital role across healthcare, lifestyle sectors, and industries. This AfN-accredited Human Nutrition program examines how food choices impact cellular and organ functions, while exploring diet's influence on physical, mental, and social wellbeing. The curriculum delivers an expert-led, evidence-based approach combining fundamental sciences with clinical and public health applications. Students engage in rigorous, critical analysis while specializing in one of four areas: Public Health Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Obesity & Weight Management, or Sports & Exercise Nutrition. The University of Glasgow boasts a distinguished nutrition legacy, from early pioneers like Cathcart and Paton to contemporary researchers making significant field contributions. International faculty and guest experts deliver flexible, tailored instruction while cultivating valuable transferable skills - particularly critical analysis abilities prized by employers. The program culminates in collaborative research proposal development.
The Sports and Exercise Nutrition component explores nutrition's critical role in physical performance. Students analyze key nutritional challenges faced by athletes and fitness enthusiasts, evaluate current research on athletes' energy requirements and body composition strategies, and assess scientific evidence regarding macronutrients, hydration, supplements, and ergogenic aids. The module also investigates nutritional mechanisms that optimize performance and post-exercise recovery.
