Caring for critically ill patients demands specialized expertise in healthcare. The modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) emerged during the 1950s polio pandemic. More recently, the Covid-19 pandemic brought ICUs back into focus as hospitals' frontline for treating severe cases. Throughout the pandemic, "Critical Care" became a daily media topic—a field we specialize in and are deeply committed to, and one we proudly teach at the University of Glasgow.
Our program is based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), home to Scotland's largest critical care facilities and among the UK's most extensive. Opened in 2015, this hospital ranks among Europe's biggest. Pursue a postgraduate degree in critical care, covering essential topics like sepsis, multi-organ failure, and governance. Learn from leading critical care specialists through diverse teaching methods, including lectures, seminars, simulations, and hands-on training. Coursework is designed to help students apply their knowledge and skills directly in their professional settings, whether in the UK or abroad.
