Caring for critically ill patients demands specialized expertise in healthcare. The modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) emerged during the 1950s polio pandemic. Decades later, the COVID-19 pandemic brought ICUs back into focus as hospitals' frontline for treating severe cases. Throughout the crisis, "Critical Care" became a daily media topic - the very specialty we specialize in and teach with enthusiasm at the University of Glasgow.
Our program is based at Scotland's largest critical care facility, the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), among the UK's most extensive when it opened in 2015 as one of Europe's biggest hospitals. Pursue a postgraduate degree covering critical care essentials like sepsis, multi-organ failure, and care governance. Learn from leading critical care specialists through diverse methods including lectures, seminars, simulation training, and bedside teaching. Coursework is designed to help students apply their learning directly to professional practice, whether in the UK or globally.
