The Master's in Biomedical Engineering is a multidisciplinary program designed to prepare you for a career in the biomedical engineering field. This comprehensive program covers all essential aspects of biomedical engineering.
With a legacy dating back to 1840, the University of Glasgow offers top-tier engineering education and research. Biomedical Engineering represents the School of Engineering's newest department, building upon our established excellence. Our research focuses on four key areas: Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering, Bionanotechnology, Rehabilitation Engineering, and Biosensors and Diagnostics. The MSc in Biomedical Engineering holds Further Learning accreditation from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), allowing graduates with an accredited BEng degree to enhance their qualifications toward Chartered Engineer status. This pathway serves as an alternative to the traditional 5-year MEng route. We are currently pursuing reaccreditation with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The curriculum features specialized modules and research projects, enabling students to focus on particular biomedical engineering specialties or pursue a broader overview. This taught MSc/PgDip program provides extensive exposure to biomedical engineering principles while allowing specialization in areas aligned with our research strengths, including Biomaterials and Biomechanics (with applications in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine), Rehabilitation Engineering implemented in Glasgow hospitals, and bioelectronics/diagnostic systems for diverse healthcare settings.
The MSc in Biomedical Engineering employs various teaching methods such as lectures, seminars, and tutorials, complemented by laboratory work, team projects, and UK study visits. Students will complete a research project under academic supervision. Graduates pursue careers in rehabilitation engineering, biomaterials for surgical reconstruction, biosensors, medical device development, and biosignal processing.
