Glasgow's urban environment serves as a living laboratory, enabling direct engagement with contemporary urban challenges and innovative solutions. The program holds recognition from the Scottish Graduate School, which administers ESRC studentships. Our faculty conducts internationally renowned research and evaluations tied to significant urban policy developments in Scotland and internationally. Upon completion, you'll gain a solid understanding of social science research principles, acquire versatile qualitative and quantitative research skills, and develop specialized knowledge in urban studies. An optional London field trip offers firsthand exposure to urban development complexities through visits to prominent real estate, planning, and regeneration projects. You'll interact with senior industry leaders and policymakers driving major urban initiatives. Previous excursions have featured sites like The Shard, Olympic Park, Crossrail, and Battersea Power Station.
The program establishes robust preparation for advanced urban research, whether for professional roles in public service and NGOs or for PhD studies. You'll satisfy all UK Economic and Social Research Council and Social Sciences Graduate School research training prerequisites for doctoral candidates.
