This Master's program in Sociology & Research Methods equips you with both qualitative and quantitative social research techniques, along with theoretical insights into core issues in social science philosophy.
You'll expand your sociological expertise, gaining critical perspectives on social theory and familiarity with empirical studies. While offering advanced sociological training, the course also serves as excellent preparation for PhD-level research, a path many of our graduates successfully pursue. It meets the Economic & Social Research Council's mandated research training standards for sociology. Glasgow's Sociology department holds top UK rankings - 1st according to Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024 and 4th in the Complete University Guide 2024.
The program boosts career prospects across public and private sectors that increasingly prize social research skills (including social welfare, marketing, PR, journalism, HR, and more). It may also inspire you to pursue further academic research through PhD studies in sociology, anthropology, or criminology.
