The School of Social and Political Sciences offers postgraduate research opportunities shaped by its faculty's academic excellence and strong connections with industry, government bodies, research institutions, and nonprofit organizations.
Students can pursue research across diverse areas within social and political sciences. Ongoing student projects explore subjects such as:
- the 1984-85 miners' strikes
- gender-based violence
- conflict prevention through diplomacy
- disparities in education
- women's labor migration patterns
- underground music culture in modern times
The School offers both MPhil and PhD programs, typically completed through thesis work with flexible full-time or part-time enrollment options.
We foster independent research capabilities through comprehensive support systems. Our structured approach includes progress monitoring, dual supervision, and tailored training alongside knowledge development.
Research students participate in our seminar series, may obtain conference funding, and receive encouragement to publish their findings while building professional networks.
Each student benefits from two faculty supervisors specializing in their research area and methodology, with scheduled meetings for guidance and support. External consultations are available when needed.
Teaching opportunities may arise for qualified students after completing required training.
As research degrees emphasize self-directed study, full-time students meet supervisors monthly while part-time students have bimonthly sessions.
