This Master's program offers a chance to refine your theatre and performance skills within a critically engaged framework. You'll be guided to cultivate a thoughtful, rigorous, and analytically grounded approach to developing original performance work. The curriculum explores diverse methodologies including contemporary devised theatre, production dramaturgy, autobiographical performance, and socially/politically conscious practice. These analytical viewpoints will deepen and broaden your creative work as we help advance your professional journey as a theatre artist or researcher.
You'll enjoy numerous chances to create, showcase, and refine your performance projects with constructive feedback. This includes guidance from established professionals when developing your final practice-based research project. The program is taught by distinguished scholars working alongside active theatre makers from Glasgow's vibrant arts community and wider field.
Learning occurs through various methods including in-person sessions, group discussions, verbal critiques, and collaborative projects. The curriculum offers hands-on and theoretical engagement with multiple performance forms through core and elective courses. You may choose either an elective class or a tailored work placement (approved by your advisor) based on your individual goals. Electives can be selected from across the College of Arts & Humanities, fostering interdisciplinary exploration. The program culminates in a Practice as Research Project, allowing flexibility in your specialized focus. This final project enables either an extensive performance creation or a detailed written investigation of your chosen topic.
This program suits practitioners seeking to evolve their craft, graduates pursuing theatre careers, and those wishing to delve deeper into performance areas they discovered during undergraduate studies. It also serves as strong preparation for doctoral research and academic pathways in theatre studies.
