The Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies boasts a dynamic team of theatre professionals who balance industry work with academic instruction. Five dedicated faculty members focus on diverse fields including verbatim theatre, performance studies, global theatre traditions, digital performance, testimonial theatre, and playwriting. Elizabeth Kuti earned the distinguished Susan Blackburn Award for her play 'The Sugar Wife' and has seen her works staged in London and broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Annecy Lax collaborates with 'Ice and Fire' as an Associate Artist, creating and directing human rights-focused verbatim theatre. Liam Jarvis heads 'Analogue,' an innovative company exploring digital technology's role in theatrical innovation, with internationally touring productions that earned a Fringe First at Edinburgh. Mary Mazilli researches modern Chinese theatre, authoring two scholarly books, and leads Lumenis Theatre Company as its founder. Jonathan Lichtenstein is an internationally produced playwright and Fringe First award recipient.
Alumni from our Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies have flourished as professional writers. Former students have also built careers as academics, university faculty, educators, publishing professionals, media specialists, arts managers, theatre leaders, drama consultants, and linguists.
