Geography explores Earth's surface as the foundation for human habitation and activity. It examines the diversity of natural and cultural environments and the connections between them. This program holds accreditation from both the Institute of Environmental Sciences and the Royal Geographical Society
Our setting:- positioned in a city rich in culture and history, near some of Earth's most breathtaking scenery, provides exceptional opportunities for studying both human and physical geography. Field research forms a core element of Glasgow University's Geography program, with all students participating in residential field trips to the Scottish Highlands and Mallorca, ensuring a well-rounded educational journey. Geography can be pursued through three distinct degree paths in Arts, Science, or Social Sciences. While the Geography curriculum remains consistent across these options, they differ in supplementary subjects available during the first two years. Those progressing to Honours will join a week-long residential field course in year 2, building upon earlier fieldwork, lab, and statistical training through group projects, data gathering, analytical challenges, and presentations. These skills are further refined in year 3 during an international field class centered on dissertation preparation.
Alumni have secured positions as coastal and river engineers, environmental educators, community outreach coordinators, and hydrographic surveyors, working with organizations like the Scottish Government, British Red Cross, Transport Scotland, Scottish Water, SEPA, and SNH.
