The Portuguese program focuses on exploring the languages, literatures, and cultures across Brazil, Portugal, and other Portuguese-speaking regions. At Glasgow, students engage in small-group learning with native Portuguese and Brazilian instructors. The program maintains strong ties with the Instituto Camões and provides complete access to our Language Resources Center, featuring top-tier audiovisual, digital, and print materials.
The School of Modern Languages & Cultures provides degree options in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Students can pursue French, German, Italian, or Spanish as standalone subjects or combine them with other disciplines. Portuguese and Russian are exclusively offered as joint degrees, requiring pairing with another academic field.
Graduates in languages enter diverse career paths such as: media, arts institutions, education/teaching, civil service fast-tracking, finance, leadership roles, public relations, and diplomatic services.

Advanced entry
Applicants who achieve exceptional grades in their Advanced Highers, A-levels or International Baccalaureate may be considered for advanced entry, meaning that an Honours degree can be completed in three years instead of the normal four years, or four years for five-year integrated Masters programmes.
