Discover Scottish Gaelic language and culture across different eras up to modern times, while enhancing your Gaelic proficiency for today's employment opportunities. The program allows you to explore Gaelic folklore, songs, contemporary poetry, life writing, modern fiction, and theatrical works entirely in Gaelic. The University's Gaelic programs and the city's lively Gaelic-speaking community offer additional chances to practice Gaelic beyond academic settings. During your advanced studies, you can opt to spend one or two semesters at Trinity College Dublin or select universities in North America and Australia.
Three specialized tracks are available: Advanced 1 for students with strong Higher Gàidhlig results, Intermediate 1 for those with solid Higher Gaelic marks, and Beginners 1 for complete or nearly complete newcomers. Each program builds relevant language competencies while providing tailored examinations of contemporary literature alongside a comprehensive look at Gaelic society and Scottish cultural history. If you advance to upper-level studies (years 3-4), you'll focus on modern Scottish Gaelic linguistics and literary works, while also exploring Irish Gaelic and the evolution of Gaelic dialects. The majority of instruction occurs in Gaelic.
Growing support for Gaelic has created increasing professional prospects in the field. Alumni have pursued diverse careers in broadcasting, publishing, creative arts, education, research, library sciences, and legal professions. Additional opportunities exist in government services, language policy with municipal organizations, and Brd na Gàidhlig.

Advanced entry
