Comparative literature examines literary works across diverse cultures, nations, time periods, languages, and artistic forms, transcending traditional boundaries. This discipline can be paired with various other subjects, particularly foreign languages, to broaden your academic perspective. At its core, comparative literature represents the study of literature without limitations. This cross-cultural approach embodies an idealistic scholarly pursuit, believing in meaningful dialogue between people of different backgrounds, traditions, and languages. Students of this field require intellectual curiosity, openness, and the willingness to engage with unfamiliar literary traditions. The University of Glasgow's Comparative Literature program offers the chance to incorporate foreign language study, even at beginner level, into your degree. It's also available as a combined degree with another subject.

Advanced entry
Applicants who achieve exceptional grades in their Advanced Highers, A-levels or International Baccalaureate may be considered for advanced eEntry, meaning that an Honours degree can be completed in three years instead of the normal four years, or four years for five-year integrated Masters programmes.
