The BA Joint Honours in English Literature and History is an interdisciplinary program that cultivates skills shared by both fields while also focusing on their distinct aspects. This degree enables you to gain expertise in both literary analysis and historical understanding.
The English component of your studies delivers a comprehensive foundation in English literary heritage, spanning from Chaucer and Shakespeare to contemporary 20th and 21st-century works, alongside training in literary theory. It also features diverse, creatively structured modules.
The history portion provides one of the UK's most dynamic and extensive curricula. You'll examine historical periods from the fall of Rome to modern times. Additionally, you may opt to extend your three-year program to four years by including a placement or study abroad opportunity.
Your first year introduces core concepts in literature and advanced historical research. The second year involves exploring various literary eras and historical methodologies. During the final year, you'll complete a dissertation and select optional modules in both disciplines.
