Aeronautical engineering focuses on the design, construction, and power systems of aircraft, along with their operational use and safety controls.
You'll engage in hands-on lab work, including jet engine testing and a fifth-year flight-testing course aboard a Saab 340B aircraft for MEng students. Collaborative aeronautical group projects with BAe Systems involve real aircraft designs. State-of-the-art experimental facilities, part of the UK National Wind Tunnel Facility, are available to students. Final-year students complete a six-month placement in industry, at an overseas university, or within University of Glasgow research labs. The program holds accreditation from the Royal Aeronautical Society and is undergoing reaccreditation with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Engineering student societies like JetX, Design-Build-Fly, and University of Glasgow Racing (UGR) offer additional opportunities. Our undergraduate degrees cover core disciplines (Aeronautics, Civil, Electronics & Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering) as well as specialized programs like Biomedical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Electronics with Music, and Civil Engineering with Architecture. The Royal Aeronautical Society accredits the program, which is also seeking reaccreditation from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
Our degrees are accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, supporting your path to becoming a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng). The MEng program meets the requirements for applying for CEng or IEng status upon graduation.
