Sustainable power sources are poised to play a key role in meeting our future energy requirements sustainably. Numerous nations have established strategies for implementing green energy solutions. By 2020, 169 countries at national or regional levels had set renewable energy goals, with clean sources accounting for over 26% of worldwide electricity production. Yet significant obstacles like inconsistent output, downtime periods (such as nighttime for solar), and variability (like with wind generation) hinder wider adoption of renewables. Energy storage technologies serve as a crucial intermediary between power production and the electrical grid, offering practical solutions to enhance electricity quality, maintain system stability, and ensure dependable power delivery. Battery solutions, including lithium-ion, flow batteries, or hybrid systems, can deliver extended periods of reliable power at various scales for grid applications like balancing loads and managing peak demand. In isolated regions or areas with unstable grids, battery storage enables local energy preservation, supports renewable integration, and can function independently as an alternative to traditional diesel generators.

Qualification Requirements

To be considered, PhD applicants need to meet the following entry requirements:
A good undergraduate degree (in the UK, at least an upper second class honours) in a relevant subject
A taught Masters degree in a relevant subject
IELTS, IELTS Online and IELTS Indicator (International English Language Testing System academic version) - 6.0 overall and no less than 6.0 in any section
TOEFL iBT and TOEFL iBT Home Edition and TOEFL iBT Paper Edition - Overall score 87 with minimum scores of 21 for writing, listening, reading and speaking. MyBest scores are not accepted
