The Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies operates as an interdisciplinary Area Studies department focused on research and education. Housed in a dedicated facility, it unites experts across anthropology, archaeology, literature, linguistics, political science, history, sociology, and religious studies. Our scholars work collaboratively within the Institute while maintaining connections with Exeter's disciplinary networks and contributing globally. The co-location of diverse academic fields with regional and historical expertise in one space significantly enhances our collective scholarly output.
Both faculty members and postgraduate researchers join one of our specialized research centers, where they present findings, engage in academic discussions, and collaborate on research initiatives.
