Positioned in the South West, our location allows us to conduct diverse biological science research, spanning cellular and molecular biology, microbiology, and biochemistry to evolutionary, environmental, ecological, and conservation studies. Our research groups align with our staff's specialized knowledge, maximizing the expertise of our academic team.
At our Streatham Campus, research covers every level of biological organization, from microscopic molecules to worldwide ecosystems, while promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration within the university and externally. We take pride in seamlessly connecting theoretical and practical research, supported by our proximity to the £52M Living Systems Institute and the newly established BioEconomy Centre.
Our research is structured around nine key themes:
Biochemistry and Molecular Microbiology
Cell and Developmental Biology
Disease Ecology and Evolution
Ecosystems
Environmental Biology
Marine Ecology
Medical Mycology
