The Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies serves as a multidisciplinary Area Studies department dedicated to research and education. Housed in a custom-designed facility, it unites experts in anthropology, archaeology, literature, linguistics, political science, history, sociology, and religious studies. Our scholars work together within the Institute while also engaging with University of Exeter's disciplinary networks and contributing to national and global academic communities. Applicants are normally expected to have, or be working towards, a Master's degree at Merit level or above in a subject area that aligns with the expertise of our staff. We also consider applications from candidates who can demonstrate professional or other relevant experience that would make them suited to undertake an MPhil/PhD with us.
