Our human geography research is organized into five key focus areas: Cultural and Historical Geographies - This group explores six central themes: Creativity in geographic contexts. The intersection of geography and creative practices. Historical studies of scientific discovery and exploration. Landscape studies. Visual, tactile, and material geographic approaches. Theoretical and philosophical geography. Space, Politics and Society - This team examines fundamental questions of resource distribution and social dynamics. We analyze modern patterns of inequality, injustice, and instability while exploring evolving governance structures, emerging resistance movements, and novel forms of civic engagement. Natures, Materialities and Biopolitics - Our work investigates the spatial dimensions and political aspects of living systems and materials. We tackle critical questions at the intersection of geography, life sciences, and biological governance. Environment and Sustainability - Comprising prominent and rising social scientists, this interdisciplinary team addresses pressing environmental challenges. We apply spatial perspectives to sustainability theory and policy, conducting innovative research in areas like place-based connections, energy economics, climate equity, and ecological services. Energy Policy - Located at our Penryn Campus, this group integrates sustainability and transformation into energy policy discussions, serving as a vital component of our broader environmental research.
