The World and Postcolonial Cultures track offers specialized study in cinema, literature, and critical theory. You'll learn from faculty specializing in archival research, material culture studies, critical theory, environmental humanities, commodity narratives, film analysis, publishing history, and creative sectors. This program examines themes including anti-colonial movements, contemporary colonialism, Black British writing, cross-border connections, resource disputes, Black liberation movements, territorial divisions, and global revolutionary portrayals in media. The curriculum showcases evolving scholarship in global postcolonial cinema and literature from the 1900s to today, fostering interdisciplinary thinking. You'll analyze diverse creative and theoretical approaches to cultural and political shifts tied to colonialism, independence movements, modern imperialism, and worldwide integration across regions spanning Africa, Britain, the Caribbean, and South/East Asia.
