Confronted with simultaneous crises—environmental degradation, democratic instability, conflicts, economic disparity amidst abundance, and the legacies of colonialism and systemic racism—we urgently need deeper understanding and innovative approaches. Since these challenges transcend academic boundaries, so must our responses.
This interdisciplinary MA program leverages Essex's renowned expertise across social and political theory, spanning critical theory, discourse analysis, human rights, migration studies, environmental ethics, and frameworks of justice. Through a blend of core and elective courses bridging humanities and social sciences, the MA in Social and Political Thought provides transformative perspectives to reinterpret—and ultimately improve—our world.
Philosophy graduates frequently pursue PhD studies, while others have secured positions in law, media, government agencies, civil service leadership, and municipal administration.
