Our four-year LLB Law with Politics (including foundation year) program helps you build subject expertise while strengthening academic abilities. The foundation year (Year Zero) provides essential grounding before advancing to three years of undergraduate studies at Essex. Upon completing Year Zero in our Essex Pathways Department, you'll continue your degree with Essex Law School.
This program offers comprehensive training in both law and politics, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills shared by both fields. You'll examine their similarities and differences while exploring various approaches within legal and political theory. The course also cultivates an understanding of law's role within broader social and political frameworks.
At Essex, we go beyond traditional legal education. We inspire students to champion justice while providing the tools to become change-makers across diverse career paths.
From day one, we encourage strategic thinking about professional development. During your first two years, alongside core law modules, you'll complete career management coursework to identify strengths, understand employer expectations (both legal and non-legal), and boost employability.
Our annual law fair connects students with legal firms and vocational training providers. Alumni have established careers not only in law but across multiple sectors including finance, government, education, social services, and law enforcement.
We advocate for realistic ambition - knowing yourself and navigating the competitive graduate job market. Throughout your Essex journey, our Student Development Team collaborates with academic staff to help shape your career strategy.
