An Integrated PhD program offers an alternative pathway for research studies if you lack a Master's degree or have minimal research experience. The first year involves completing a full-time Master's-level program, followed by either a 3-4 year full-time PhD or a 6-7 year part-time PhD. Alternatively, we provide a standard PhD option in this field, available as full-time (3-4 years) or part-time (6-7 years).
Cognitive neuroscience explores the biological foundations of cognition, particularly the neural mechanisms behind mental functions. This interdisciplinary field bridges psychology and neuroscience, intersecting with areas like biological psychology, cognitive psychology, and neuropsychology. Cognitive neuropsychology specifically examines individual cases of brain injury or neurological disorders to enhance understanding of cognitive processes.
By developing specialized skills through our Psychology Department, you'll become highly sought-after by diverse employers.

Our alumni have secured roles in clinical psychology, educational psychology, and forensic psychology.
We maintain strong research connections and are acknowledged by the ESRC for outstanding postgraduate education, serving as an accredited Doctoral Training Centre with multiple funding opportunities.
Recent PhD graduates have secured postdoctoral roles at leading UK and international universities (including the US, Italy, and Australia), as well as academic teaching positions.
