Our Mathematical Biology PhD program employs innovative mathematical and computational approaches to address challenges in biological, ecological, and environmental sciences. At Essex, we've guided research projects spanning animal movement patterns, population dynamics, plankton ecosystems, fisheries management, natural resource conservation, and bioinformatics methods. Prospective students are encouraged to reach out to explore additional research possibilities in this discipline.

Graduates with this specialized PhD are exceptionally well-prepared for scientific research careers, given the current scarcity of mathematical specialists in biological and environmental studies.
Our alumni have secured academic positions at prestigious global institutions including Cambridge University, Nottingham University, and various international universities. Several have continued their work at Essex as postdoctoral researchers, impact officers, or faculty members.

Other graduates have pursued careers with organizations such as the Met Office, Ministry of Defence, and financial institutions in London's business district. With strong quantitative skills being highly valued across all economic sectors, our graduates enjoy excellent employment prospects both in the UK and internationally.
