Our History PhD program provides supervision across diverse topics spanning from 1500 to modern times, with special emphasis on subjects aligned with our three research clusters and the Centre for Public History. These clusters explore key themes including race, gender and identity, political movements, class and citizenship, as well as war, conflict and memory. Our faculty specializes in several regions: Britain (including local and regional history), Europe, the United States, Latin America, Russia, Southern Africa and East Asia.
We are committed to delivering outstanding research training and personalized supervision in a supportive environment, fostering positive relationships between staff and students.
Our department maintains robust connections with academic networks both nationally and internationally. Many alumni have pursued teaching careers in universities, while others have entered fields such as archives, museums and heritage organizations, education, marketing, communications, public relations, and government service.
