Our BA Global Studies with Human Rights program enhances your understanding of our interconnected planet while developing specialized knowledge in human rights. You'll gain the skills to champion individual and collective rights, equity, and societal transformation.Protecting human rights remains one of humanity's greatest worldwide challenges. Covering issues from refugee rights to incarceration policies and political affiliations, we provide comprehensive global insights into human rights theory and practice.Your studies will encompass subjects such as:Advancing and safeguarding human rightsSocial movements and contemporary uprisingsGlobal migration trendsEconomic progress in developing nationsHistorical perspectives on modern issuesHoused within our School of Philosophical, Historical and Interdisciplinary Studies, you'll learn from distinguished scholars spanning multiple humanities and social science fields.Our Essex Law School faculty also contributes to your education.At Essex, we focus on commercial law, constitutional law, criminal justice, medical law, technology law, socio-legal research, and human rights legislation.International study opportunitiesYour learning journey extends beyond our campus. We facilitate educational expansion through study abroad programs at partner institutions worldwide. The four-year degree option includes a third year abroad or on an international placement, while maintaining identical curriculum to the three-year program.Studying overseas exposes you to different cultures and languages, enriches your academic experience, and showcases to future employers your adaptability, initiative, and organizational skills.Full-year abroad students pay just 15% of standard Essex tuition fees, with no additional charges at the host university.Professional placement optionUpon enrollment, you may choose to incorporate a placement year into your studies. While securing the position remains your responsibility, you'll receive support from both your academic department and our Employability and Careers Centre.Students undertaking a placement year pay only 20% of their regular Essex tuition fee for that period.
A-levels: BBB - BBC or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of 2 full A-levels, including B in one essay based subject.
BTEC: DDM - DMM or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of the equivalent of 2 full A-levels.
Combined qualifications on the UCAS tariff: 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of 2 full A levels or equivalent.
IB: 30 - 29 points or three Higher Level certificates with 555-554.
IB Career-related Programme: We consider combinations of IB Diploma Programme courses with BTECs or other qualifications.
QAA-approved Access to HE Diploma: 6 level 3 credits at Distinction and 39 level 3 credits at Merit, depending on subject studied - advice on acceptability can be provided
T-levels: We consider T-levels on a case-by-case basis, depending on subject studied. The offer for most courses is Distinction overall. Depending on the course applied for there may be additional requirements, which may include a specific grade in the Core.
IELTS - 6.0 overall TOEFL IBT - 76 overall, with a minimum of 18 in reading, 17 in listening, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing
