Our four-year BA Curating with History (including foundation year) is ideal if you don't currently meet the entry requirements for the three-year program and need to strengthen both your subject knowledge and academic abilities. The five-year option provides an opportunity for international study in your fourth year.
This program begins with a foundation year (Year Zero), followed by either three additional years of study or four years if you select the study abroad option. Year Zero includes three subject-specific modules alongside essential academic skills training, with English language support available for non-native speakers.
BA Curating with History provides comprehensive training in art history, curatorial practice, heritage studies, and public history. You'll develop both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise through classroom instruction and hands-on museum experience. The program particularly focuses on exhibition design theory, exploring how curatorial decisions influence audience engagement with museum and gallery displays.
With the visual arts sector playing an increasingly vital role in global economies, our graduates leave Essex equipped to capitalize on these expanding opportunities.
Career paths for Curating graduates include positions in museums, galleries, and auction houses, with roles available in curation, cultural policy, museum education, programming, and arts marketing. The degree also provides essential skills for gallery management, arts PR, and various cultural sector roles in design, fashion, publishing, or events coordination.
