This course enhances understanding of the connections and distinctions between historical studies and visual arts, exploring how these fields can complement each other. History presents complex challenges, and we urge students to move beyond simplistic views that treat artworks merely as records of factual truth.
You'll develop the ability to interpret how historical concepts and ideologies are expressed visually, while questioning traditional notions of documentation and evidence. By simultaneously studying history and art history, you'll cultivate a nuanced perspective on their interrelationships. This distinctive approach equips you with essential skills for today's visually-driven society, where images dominate communication. Expert faculty will guide you from your very first year.
The BA in Art History and History provides versatile skills applicable to numerous career paths. Historical study sharpens your capacity to process new concepts while honing research and analytical abilities.
Our alumni excel in diverse fields including media, advertising, cultural institutions, education, publishing, nonprofit work, fashion, and public relations, as well as specialized roles like conservation, auctioneering, antiquities expertise, and art law.
