The Centre for Genomics and Experimental Medicine (CGEM) at the University of Edinburgh operates as a key component of the MRC/University of Edinburgh Institute of Genetics and Cancer (IGC). CGEM focuses on leveraging genetic and genomic science to decipher disease mechanisms and develop innovative treatment approaches. Our work has consistently earned top marks in national research quality evaluations.
We conduct in-depth analyses of populations, families, and individuals to examine diverse health conditions. Employing cutting-edge techniques in genetics, epigenetics, genomics, statistics, bioinformatics, and molecular biology across both model systems and clinical research, we systematically explore disease origins. These insights help us enhance disease forecasting, prevention, and treatment outcomes. Our applied research includes creating new pharmaceuticals and optimizing existing treatments through genetically-guided clinical trials.
