Located in Edinburgh, Scotland's vibrant festival capital, we're situated at the center of a dynamic cultural landscape as the country's oldest Celtic studies department.

For seven decades, our School of Scottish Studies Archives has developed into an unparalleled repository of audio, visual, and photographic materials that consistently spark innovative research and artistic projects.

We host the European Ethnological Research Centre, dedicated to studying Scottish culture and society through ongoing initiatives like the Regional Ethnology of Scotland and publications such as Scottish Life and Society: an encyclopedia of Scottish ethnology.
