The foundational ideas of Western civilization were first articulated in ancient Greek and Latin. Alongside English and Scots, these languages have produced some of the most significant literary works in history.

By studying Scottish Literature and Classics, we gain insights into both contemporary society and historical contexts. This discipline equips students to actively participate in a world where textual interpretation plays a vital role.
The program focuses on enhancing critical thinking, analytical abilities, language proficiency, and creative capacities through diverse texts and reading methodologies.

Students will examine the cultural backgrounds of Scottish literature across all major eras, spanning from the late medieval period to modern times.
