This joint honours program offers the flexibility to master two complementary European languages while exploring their global cultural significance.

Both languages rank among the world's top 10 most spoken, creating career prospects across Europe, Africa, and the Americas.

Many graduates began with no prior Portuguese knowledge. Through immersive language training, including a year abroad, you'll develop equal proficiency in both Portuguese and French.

Beyond language instruction, you'll examine francophone and lusophone cultures through literature, film, political history, social movements, and philosophical concepts.

Edinburgh's status as an international festival capital makes it an ideal location for cultural language studies.

We stand alone in Scotland by guaranteeing all students a full academic year abroad within our four-year honors program, whether spent studying or working.

The curriculum offers remarkable flexibility. During your first two years, alongside core subjects, you'll select from diverse elective courses.

As you advance through your honors years, you'll specialize by choosing courses aligned with your interests, skills, and career objectives.

Upon graduation, you'll possess both a broad arts and humanities education and specialized expertise in two globally significant languages - a combination highly prized by international employers.
