Our Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages program enables you to learn two or three languages, choosing from French, Italian, and Spanish. This adaptable program lets you customize your studies based on your preferences. You'll enhance your language abilities while exploring the social, political, and cultural influences that have shaped modern France and Francophone regions, Italy, and Spanish-speaking countries. The University of Leicester ranks among the Guardian University Guide 2022's top 20 for Modern Languages and consistently receives high marks for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey. A distinctive feature of this program is the fully-funded Summer School after your first year, where you'll immerse yourself in the language and culture of one of your selected languages. Beginners' language students will attend the Summer School in their beginner language's country, while advanced students may choose between their two language options. You can start one of your two or three languages from scratch, broadening your linguistic and cultural knowledge. Our intensive beginner courses rapidly develop your skills to post-GCSE proficiency. All language classes, whether for beginners or advanced learners, emphasize modern written and spoken language. You'll refine your writing through practice with various styles and registers, while small-group oral sessions, mainly led by native speakers, will strengthen your speaking skills.
