French stands as one of the globe's principal languages, used across numerous regions in Europe, Africa, and the Americas.

The Francophone community boasts a rich political heritage, rendering French and Politics an ideal dual-degree pairing.

French
Through rigorous language training at Edinburgh and an overseas immersion year, you'll develop near-fluent command of this globally spoken contemporary language.

You'll also examine diverse facets of French culture, encompassing worldwide Francophone literature and film, societal movements, and philosophical concepts.

Our curriculum spans from medieval times to the modern era, featuring specialized courses led by distinguished scholars in fields like post-colonial studies and gender studies.

Politics
Politics examines the frameworks and implementation of societal governance. How do political systems establish collective regulations? Who wields decision-making authority? What outcomes emerge from political choices? What constitutes an equitable society, and how might we achieve it?

Leveraging insights from top scholars and researchers, you'll investigate the roots and contemporary manifestations of conflicts surrounding power dynamics, civic engagement, and resource distribution. Your studies will encompass not just governing mechanisms at various levels, but also the ethics of political conduct and the boundaries of liberty and equity.
