The MD is an advanced degree pursued by medical professionals, typically during their postgraduate training. Candidates must be employed in the South East of Scotland, whether as University of Edinburgh staff, NHS personnel, or researchers working within the university, affiliated institutions, or NHS facilities—regardless of funding source (self-financed, grant-supported, or employed).
An MD thesis must focus on topics from the MBChB curriculum or address issues emerging directly from current medical practice.
