The Doctor of Medicine (DM) holds equal academic standing to a PhD, similar to Keele's professional doctorates. Its structure, however, better suits the needs of its primary audience - Specialist Registrars (SpRs) and General Practitioners (GPs). The DM program fulfills these key aspects: Designed for medical professionals beyond F2 grade in 4-7 year training rotations with sufficient time to complete the program. Recognized as a Doctoral-level qualification under the National Qualifications Framework. Following research degree criteria, assessment primarily involves thesis evaluation by individually appointed examiners. All participants must possess specialist clinical experience and will undergo research training. DM candidates must secure protected time for their studies. Oversight comes from the Research Institute Postgraduate Committee and DM program director, adhering to both standard research degree regulations and DM-specific requirements. The DM maintains academic equivalence to a PhD and Keele's professional doctorates, while offering a structure more aligned with SpRs' and GPs' professional contexts.
Students require an Honours degree with a first or 2.1 classifications, or the equivalent if you have been educated outside the UK. Any other academic and/or professional qualifications you may have are also considered, and in some cases form an integral part of the entrance requirement. IELTS: 6.5 with 6.0 in all components. TOEFL IBT: 87 with 19 (writing), 19 (listening), 19 (reading) and 20 (speaking).
