Our department is research-focused, conducting studies with global recognition. We collaborate closely with the NHS, uniting fundamental and clinical researchers specializing in microbiology, respiratory science, and immunology. Doctoral candidates undertake self-directed research projects supervised by faculty advisors. Typically, full-time students finish within 3.0-3.5 years, while part-time students take 6.0-6.5 years. An additional year (or remaining time) may be used for thesis preparation. The dissertation, limited to 50,000 words, must offer novel insights and include publishable material. Candidates must successfully defend their work in an oral examination to earn their degree.
