Geology examines Earth's formation, structure, and development over time. Our comprehensive program covers diverse aspects, from analyzing Earth's materials and the mechanisms behind volcanic eruptions and seismic events to surface-level phenomena that mold our terrain. We investigate biological systems that foster biodiversity and lead to mass extinctions, oceanic and atmospheric patterns influencing climate, along with challenges tied to natural resources, geological hazards, and environmental shifts. Beyond specialized geological expertise, the Geology MSci equips students with robust analytical and practical foundations suitable for various career paths, as it synthesizes concepts from multiple scientific fields like chemistry, physics, and biology while teaching how to apply scientific approaches to intricate issues.
The curriculum encompasses: analysis of rock and mineral properties, their formation processes and original settings; research into ancient life forms and their habitats; Earth's physical and chemical properties; significant geological phenomena including plate tectonics and orogeny (mountain formation).
