Grasping the physical mechanisms that govern Earth's composition, architecture, and movements is crucial for forecasting our planet's future responses and addressing worldwide societal challenges. Geophysical studies play a vital role in building a sustainable future by assessing natural disaster threats, locating resources, and using computational models to anticipate future conditions.
Our adaptable Geophysics program empowers you with core knowledge while offering growing specialization throughout your studies, enabling you to focus on your preferred area of interest.
During the initial year, you'll establish a solid foundation in Earth Sciences while honing university-level Mathematics and Physics skills. The second year focuses on geophysical survey techniques, data interpretation, and mathematical modeling of geological processes. In your final year, you'll complete an independent geophysical research project and deepen your expertise in selected specialized topics, with several field trip opportunities.
Merging academic rigor with pioneering research, this program prepares you for careers across various sectors, including mineral and petroleum exploration, as well as environmental and hydro-geological industries. The quantitative abilities you'll develop also create opportunities in non-geoscience fields such as finance, insurance, and banking.
After your second year, you might have the option to switch to the four-year MSci in Earth Sciences. This additional year includes a customized research project in your chosen specialization, along with advanced modules that synthesize your Earth Science knowledge for professional or research purposes. You can also apply to extend your degree with a placement year or study abroad opportunity, expanding the program from three to four years.
