Tailored for students aiming to build a career in heritage conservation, this program offers one year of training at the Institute of Archaeology. It focuses on hands-on experience in conservation labs under expert supervision, followed by a ten-month evaluated work placement at a museum or similar institution. Participants acquire comprehensive knowledge and foundational skills in preserving heritage objects, along with critical thinking for diagnosis, problem-solving, decision-making, and treatment application. The curriculum provides practical training and insight into the professional conservation environment. Admission typically requires completion of the Principles of Conservation MA. Candidates must hold a chemistry qualification (equivalent to UK AS-level) and demonstrate manual dexterity. Prior experience with heritage collections is beneficial. Those without the MA in Principles of Conservation should contact Dean Sully for eligibility guidance before applying.
