The department boasts numerous world-class mathematicians. Our graduates excel in diverse fields, particularly as postdoctoral scholars or within the financial sector. Situated in central London with strong ties to neighboring universities, we provide exceptional networking prospects. Students can pursue research across extensive areas of pure and applied mathematics. In pure mathematics, our strengths encompass analysis, geometry, number theory, and topology. Applied mathematics specialties include fluid dynamics, mathematical modeling, mathematical physics, biological mathematics, applied/numerical analysis, and financial mathematics. The department combines superb research guidance with a vibrant student community. Its size enables extensive research while maintaining close faculty accessibility.

Through UCL's involvement in the London School of Geometry and Number Theory (LSGNT), the London Taught Course Centre, and various intercollegiate seminars, students become deeply connected to London's broader mathematical network.
