This program seeks to cultivate future pioneers in interdisciplinary research across economic and public policy, innovation economics, and governance. Its core mission is to inspire doctoral candidates to integrate diverse academic perspectives, enabling them to conduct truly cross-disciplinary examinations of how innovation and policy can address worldwide issues. Our MPhil/PhD initiative focuses on groundbreaking investigations into defining public value and purpose within innovation frameworks and related policies. The program unites experts from various fields including economics, philosophy, political science, design, architecture, anthropology, and natural sciences. Full-time PhD candidates undertake independent research spanning 3-4 years, with compulsory research methodology training in the initial year. Each student receives guidance from at least two supervisors - a principal supervisor from IIPP and potentially a secondary supervisor from IIPP or another UCL department. Regular supervisory meetings ensure progress updates, written work feedback, and advice on literature, research approaches, and methodologies. Students also benefit from peer evaluations within the department and are strongly encouraged to share their research at academic conferences.
