Working alongside Secondary Lead School partners, the University of Chester provides a History specialization (11-16 with sixth form enhancement) program that leads to PGCE with QTS certification. A teaching career offers both immense satisfaction and significant challenges. Our program equips you with the essential knowledge, skills, and understanding to become an exceptional educator. We strive to develop teachers who are deeply committed to advancing both their students' and their own educational growth.
Throughout the program, you'll acquire techniques to foster students' historical understanding through your subject expertise. This course aims to develop reflective Secondary History teachers who will be:
dynamic and self-assured in teaching environments
adaptable and skilled in pedagogical approaches
experts in history education
knowledgeable about how students learn history
capable of placing their subject within the broader curriculum framework
proficient in cross-curricular areas, understanding History's role in students' holistic development including personal, social, moral, spiritual, and cultural aspects
effective team collaborators.
Applicants will normally:
Hold or be expected to gain a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree
Have GCSE grade C/grade 4 in English and Mathematics
