The most advanced academic qualifications are the MPhil (Master of Philosophy) and PhD (Doctor of Philosophy), sometimes referred to as DPhil. The Department of English and Digital Media encourages applications for these programs.
This program offers the chance to deeply explore a specific author or subject within a collaborative research setting. PhD candidates benefit from regular guidance from primary and secondary supervisors, while also participating in faculty-led seminars, guest lectures, and postgraduate reading groups to progressively build the expertise necessary for completing their research.
The PhD program typically spans three years for full-time students or six years for part-time students. Initial registration is for the PhD degree, with probationary status until the first Annual Review (usually 12-18 months after enrollment). The program culminates in submitting an original thesis (80,000-100,000 words) that must show comprehensive subject knowledge, critical analysis skills, and either new discoveries or innovative perspectives in the field.
